Should you go for Painless Delivery!

Natural labour is painful. However, process of Painless Delivery can help make it bearable. I have seen this process being widely advertised by many hospitals. This post will help you understand what it is and is it for you.
What is Painless Delivery?
It's a process of normal delivery (means without a cesarean operation or C-section) using a form of regional anesthesia. Epidural anaesthesia is administered through an injection on the lower back of the mother that provides pain relief during natural labour. The drug takes about 10-15 minutes to take effect.
Should you go for Painless Delivery?
Here are my inputs for you to decide if you should go for painless delivery:
It can be used only in patients with normal Blood Pressure and Normal Sugar.
The health, weight and position of the baby should be perfectly conducive for normal labour.
The process requires the mother to bear pain for initial 3 to 4 hours before the uterus is ready to respond to the medicine.
It might prolong the actual duration of labour by several hours.
The mother doesn’t feel the pain and might not cooperate enough to push when needed, as a result the natural labour may convert to Caesarean delivery.
The hospital expenses increase by around 15% as compared to normal delivery.
Please consider these points and also discuss these with your Obstetrician to choose this method very wisely. Wish you all the best!
